Nathaniel has been a professional dancer for over 20 years, working within dance theatre, film, fashion, music and education. Since graduating he has worked with dance companies in the UK and Europe, including DV8 Physical Theatre, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company and with Akademi South Asian Dance Uk for Her Majesty The Queen and the President of India at Buckingham Palace.
In 2012 he visited India for the first time whereby he found himself teaching on the Goa Contact Dance Festival and met a group of Indian scholarship students. This hugely rewarding and inspiring experience led him to research the dance scene in India and start developing his teaching practice at Omaggio Performance Company in Goa, Terence Lewis Institute in Mumbai, The Danceworx Academy in Mumbai and New Delhi, Shiamak Davar Academy in Mumbai, Shoonya Space and Nritarutya Dance Company in Bangalore as well as many other smaller dance studios.
Faced with the stark contrast in opportunities and expertise available to Indian dancers compared with the abundance of opportunities he received during his training in the UK, Nathaniel has made it his mission to rectify this imbalance, the start of which has been in setting up the Goa Dance Residency, in order to facilitate a more meaningful and sustained contribution and exchange of skills, from himself and the many other international dance artists he has met in India with the same desire, vision and commitment.
After graduating with an Honours degree from London Contemporary Dance School Nathaniel studied a Masters in Enterprise and Management for the Creative Arts at London College of Communication, University of The Arts London; with the intention of working not just as a performer but as a producer, in order to increase the accessibility and visibility of contemporary dance practice.
Nathaniel combines his passion for teaching professional performance and technical training with his current enquiries into therapeutic dance, somatic movement practices and dance within a yogic context. Nathaniel teaches a range of classes including Modern (Graham & Limon) Contemporary, (Cunningham, Release) Improvisation, Choreography & Jazz.
Nathaniel is currently enrolled on the Masters degree in Creative Practice: Dance Professional Pathway at Trinity Laban School of Dance and Music and co-delivered by Independent Dance at the Siobhan Davies Dance Studios, London.
His future academic plans include a Masters degree in Dance Technique Pedagogy at Middlesex University (distance learning) to coincide with his teaching practice both in the UK and in India, which will eventually lead onto doctoral research, combining his creative and pedagogical practice with his arts management and international development interests.
